Social media are of course very different with peculiar goals, but can we really say that their social media pages work differently when we are talking about followers and engagements? The approach, the language, and the reasons should be different, but people express their passions and vibes in the same way on every social media.

When we wrote Best Architecture firms on Facebook, we asked ourselves which architecture firms are most active and who’s living on the fat of the land Even demonstrating how size doesn’t matter and often the most loved are not the most active.

Talking about the most popular architecture firms on LinkedIn we investigate which are the most influential and which are the most, professionally speaking, attractive.

Two of the most well-known indicators (KPIs = key performance indexes) are “ number of fans” and “ engagement”.
While, on Facebook and Instagram, these two indicators can be influenced by promotions (for a handful of small changes actually) and twisted by not very clear growth strategies (buying likes and followers…ups!) on LinkedIn such behaviour is more difficult and expensive.

We analyzed more than 200 LinkedIn accounts of the largest architecture firms in the world. What catches the eye is two American companies are definitely leading the ranking and doing the lion’s share.

data collected on January 2020

With more than 942.000 followers, the most popular architecture firm on LinkedIn is Jacobs an American firm founded in Dallas in 1947 by Joseph J. Jacobs. AECOM, we visited during the London Design Festival 2018, is the second amongst the most popular architecture firms on LinkedIn with more than 903.000 followers

At the third place of the podium, with half of the fans compared to the previous ones, Atkins, a British multinational engineering, design, planning, architectural design, project management and consulting services company headquartered in London founded in 1938 by Sir William Atkins.

The most popular Danish architecture firm is BIG — Bjarke Ingels Group (7th), the most popular Dutch architecture firm is OMA (11th), the most popular Swedish architecture firm is Sweco (12th), the most popular Australian architecture firm is Woods Bagot. IDOM is the most popular Spanish architecture firm, Herzog & de Meuron the most popular Swiss one, Snøhetta the most popular Norvegese one, Ateliers Jean Nouvel the most popular French one, B+H Architects the most popular from Canada, Renzo Piano Building Workshop the most popular Italian one, Space Matrix the most popular Asian one from Singapore.

Amongst the most popular architecture firms on Linkedin, the most active one is the 12th most popular: a very detached handful of pursuers from every part of the World such as the English Sweco with 141 posts (only in January 2020). The Swedish architecture firm is followed by Stantec, the American HOK, and the Australian GHD.

As you know, the most important indicator, when we talk about social media, is the engagement rate. The engagement rate is a metric used to gauge the level of engagement generated from created content or abrand campaign. In other words, the engagement rate refers to the level of interaction with followers that is generated from content created by a user.
Engagement is more important than reach!

Surprisingly in the first places, we do not find either the most popular and largest architecture firms on LinkedIn nor the American or English ones. Even if they are very small in terms of fan base, French and German architecture firms are the most successful and influential on Linkedin. The engagement podium is completely French: Fresh Architectures, A26 architectures and Marc Mimram Architecture et Ingénierie followed at the 4th place by another Frenc architecture firm, CAAU Coldefy & Associés Architectes Urbanistes. The first German ones (all listed in our best architecture firms in Germany) are, RKW Architektur + 5th and Bez+Kock Architekten at 6th place.

If instead we consider the engagement rate of the largest firms on LinkedIn, rankings and values are completely different: Cox Architecture (37th in the global ranking) with an engagement rate of 0,31% ranks first. HOK (9th) ranks second and HKS (23rd) with Ateliers Jean Nouvel (24th) and Zaha Hadid Architects (4th) rank third.

The most liked post on LinkedIn amongst these architecture firms in 2019 is by Zaha Hadid Architects and is the video presentation of Beijing Daxing International Airport with more than 11.000 likes, 406 comments, and 227.000 views.

Therefore considering the previous indicators, in terms of likes, engagement and dimensions we can say that Zaha Hadid Architects is the most successful and influential architecture firm on LinkedIn.
